After launching their training manual for Faecal Sludge Management in July 2016, Eawag and CAWST held their innuagural workshop in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. BORDA hosted a diverse group of participants from utilities, private practice, NGOs, universities and development partners who worked through the 19 different modules over the two-day course. WASHTED was thrilled to be able to help deliver some of the modules and is looking forward to hosting a similar workshop in Blantyre soon! Get in touch if you would be interested in attending!
For the last 40 years, Sandy Cairncross has dedicated his life to researching the most pressing water and sanitation issues in Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, he’s the Research Director in the SHARE (Sanitation and Hygiene Applied Research for Equity) Consortium and took some time out of his busy schedule to visit WASHTED. The SHARE team took him to visit the current SCHI project and to scope the future site of the collaborative hygiene intervention and research. WASHTED is excited to have so much experience and support to build on as it starts such important, groundbreaking work!

Organized by Water for People and Blantyre City Council, WASHTED participated in a day-long celebration of good hygiene practices. More than 100 children marched through Blantyre waving soap and signs, reminding passersby about the importance of handwashing for good health. Students presented dramas, sang, and participated in skill-testing questions in the presence of the Deputy Mayor and various dignitaries. WASHTED is looking forward to the day when these students bring their enthusiasm to post-secondary studies at the Polytechnic!
